He is married and has four children.

Master Johnny Williamson is a karate expert and a business guru. He has dedicated almost his entire life to developing Tang Soo Do through the Starworld Martial Arts Academy which he founded. His unwavering commitment to karate, his helpful hand with other karate schools as well as his mentoring skills have made him popular and respected among his peers and beyond. He is always ready to offer a helping hand and this resonates well with both his peers in martial art and those who look up to him. He truly embellishes the karate spirit of Tang Soo Do that involves merging the mind and the body into a single unified defensive weapon for good purposes.

Master Williamson’s entire life has been a buildup of experience and skill ushering him into the roles he holds today. In the 1970’s, he studied Taekwondo. He later joined the US Army in 1985 where he studied Tang Soo Do under the instructions of Master Vance Britt, 7th Dan. His progression was quick earning his black belt 3 years later in 1988. He was then ordered to go on a mission in Germany. While there, he opened his first of many Tang Soo Do schools at the military bases. Germany was gracious enough to expose him to a blend of both Chinese boxing and Aikido.

His military positioned in Germany ended in 1992. He moved back to the US, retired from the army and settled in Sierra Vista, Arizona. His retirement was honorary having served in the military faithfully for 20 years. In Sierra Vista, Arizona he started his first school in the United States and continued to learn Aikido (he was taught by renowned Master Mitsugi Saotome). The lessons he learned were incorporated into his teaching regime at his schools.

Fast forward to almost 25 years later. Master Johnny Williamson owns a World Tang Soo Do Association (WTSDA) karate studio which he built over the years and currently has a student enrollment of more than 200. His karate studio is currently one of the largest schools in the WTSDA. Cumulatively, Master Williamson has over 30 years of experience in Tang Soo Do and is a 6th-degree black belt. Read the 30 Year Anniversary Newsletter

His combination of academic, business experience and skills in martial arts have propelled him to a flurry of positions over the years. Currently, Master Williamson is a member and valuable advisor to the WTSDA Business chairperson. His role involves helping with studio business operations as well as marketing all to grow WTSDA membership in karate studios. In the same regard, Master Williamson is also a key presenter in WTSDA business seminars and Master’s Clinic freely giving business marketing knowledge on a large scale.

Additionally, Master Williamson serves as a WTSDA regional director over six states in the US under him. He is also the chairperson of the WTSDA Community Service which provides advice and leadership as regards community services that are appropriate for a particular area. The WTSDA Community Service strives to achieve a positive relationship with the communities it serves.

Lastly, Master Williamson is a certified anti-bully expert. He has gone on to develop a curriculum for anti-bullying for other karate studio owners (he is currently pushing to get the WTSDA anti-bullying program launched). He also mentors these WTSDA studio owners offering them advice and sharing his vast experience which he has gathered over the last 30 years or so. His help has seen many clubs transform to studios and also several gyms transform to full commercial buildings. He has also written several books that are on sale at Amazon. Master Williamson also worked in person with the late Grandmaster Shin. Through their work together, they established and created the World Tang Soo Do Association’s 25th-anniversary celebration that provided studios with detailed instructions on how the WYSDA 25th anniversary was meant to be celebrated.
